The “Big Beautiful Bill,” enacted with your approval, creates the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in U.S. history, causes massive suffering for millions of Americans and burdens our economy with “debt slavery.”

The budget bill slashes $1.1 trillion in funds for health care and other essential life sustaining programs. 17 million Americans will lose health insurance resulting in widespread devastating harm and cause 51,000 additional deaths annually. More than 300 hospitals and 500 nursing homes nationwide risk closure, including many in Utah.

These facts are not cold statistics. Health care cuts impact real people — our families, friends, neighbors and fellow citizens across the political spectrum.

The budget bill increases funding for ICE and detention centers tenfold, which moves us toward a police state. This will accelerate the indiscriminate kidnapping and removal of many thousands to torture prisons without due process, the vast majority of whom are not criminals, pay taxes and reside here legally.

Now, when aggressively mitigating global warming is crucial, the budget bill dismantles the renewable energy sector which will eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs, increase energy costs and sharply increase the threat to human survival. Meanwhile, climate change is intensifying weather events causing multiple deaths and billions in property losses.

Internationally, Trump’s defunding USAID has caused 330,000 deaths worldwide. 14 million are expected to die by 2030, including 700,000 children annually. Millions more will suffer from preventable diseases.

Tragically, the Trump/Republican penchant for inflicting suffering, cruelty and death is unbounded — all to feed the obscene avarice of your paymasters, the wealthy elite.

Question: Will you reject your blind obedience to a would-be fascist dictator, find moral courage, reverse course and stand strong for the health, well-being and rights of all Americans?

America awaits your answers.

Andrew Kramer, Ivins
